2009 is a year of change in the composition of the European Union (EU) institutions. This document highlights the cause of individuals that are directly affected by the human rights consequences of the EU’s policies. It focuses on six key areas of human rights, with particular emphasis on the individual rights holder, to underline the need for the EU to take action to defend, protect and promote the human rights of individuals, both within its own borders and internationally.
