This document describes the situation in Sierral Leone since the military coup on 25 May 1997, in which the government of President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah was overthrown. Since the military coup, soldiers together with members of the RUF (Revolutionary United Front), have committed serious human rights violations. Hundreds of people have been arbitrary arrested, tortured and ill-treated. There have also been reports of extrajudicial executions of some of those suspected of opposing the AFRC.
