Stop repression against women who defend human rights in Cuba

Women defenders in Cuba face gender-based violence for speaking out. Demand that the Cuban government respect their human rights.

What’s the problem?

In Cuba, women who are human rights defenders – activists, journalists, artists and mothers of prisoners – live under constant harassment. They are arbitrarily detained, monitored, assaulted and threatened with losing custody of their children just for demanding freedom and justice.

The authorities use gender violence as a control tool: misogynistic insults, sexual harassment, intimidation and smear campaigns. Many have suffered short-lived enforced disappearances or been forced into exile.

Instead of respecting their rights, the Cuban State represses them. Defending rights should not cost freedom, security or dignity.

By signing this petition, you are joining a network of people who are calling upon the Cuban government to end repression and ensure a safe environment for women who are human rights defenders.

Your voice can break the silence.

What you can do to help?

Ask President Miguel Diaz-Canel and the Cuban authorities to:

  • End harassment, arbitrary arrests and violence against women defenders, activists and journalists.
  • Move towards a comprehensive law against gender-based violence, with special protection for women who are human rights defenders.

Cuban women who defend human rights not only fight for themselves: they fight for a country where raising their voices is not a reason for punishment. Their reports of state violence need our attention and solidarity to bring real change.

Your signature can amplify their courage and put pressure on the Cuban government to respect human rights.

To accompany them is to resist.
