Egypt: Memorandum: Egypt’s draft law on associations

Amnesty International is greatly concerned by aspects of the draft law on associations which would replace current law no 84/2002. The draft law was prepared by Egypt’s Ministry of Social Solidarity (MOSS) who made it available to civil society groups in June 2014. If the draft were to be enacted in its present form, it would undermine rights guarantees contained in the recently adopted Egyptian Constitution and put Egypt in breach of obligations it entered into freely when it ratified the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and other international human rights treaties.
