Joint oral statement to UN HRC49: Meeting on enhancing technical cooperation and capacity-building in promoting and protecting the human rights of persons in vulnerable and marginalized situations in recovery efforts during and after the COVID-19 pandemic

In this joint oral statement to the 49th session of the UN Human Rights Council, six civil society organizations including Amnesty International, recall how the Covid-19 pandemic has shown the importance of a multi-stakeholder, community-led, evidence-based approach to pandemics, that safeguards and reinforces human rights protections while ensuring participation, transparency, and accountability. It calls for the proposed International Pandemic Treaty to set up a mechanism to ensure fair global access to pandemic health tools. The groups highlight the heightened responsibility of the Human Rights Council to ensure the Treaty is developed through a transparent and meaningfully consultative process.
