Turkey’s two-year-long state of emergency may have ended in July 2018, but alarmingly, the ever-deepening roll back of human rights that it brought about has not. The state of emergency was used to consolidate draconian government powers to silence critical voices and strip away fundamental rights and freedoms. Far from being reversed, many of these measures have continued unabated since the end of the state of emergency. This briefing outlines Amnesty International’s concerns over the human rights situation in Turkey as of end of 2018 and ends with recommendations to the government of Turkey to improve it.
