United Kingdom: Submission to the Joint Committee on the draft Detention of Terrorist Suspects (Temporary Extension) Bills

In February 2011, the UK Home Office published the Draft Detention of Terrorist Suspects (Temporary Extension) Bills; their stated rationales are to provide for contingency powers to extend the number of days of pre-charge detention back to 28 days. In response to a call for evidence by the Joint Committee on the Draft Detention of Terrorist Suspects (Temporary Extension) Bills (the Joint Committee), Amnesty International raises the concerns outlined in this document for the committee’s consideration.
