Mexico: Laws without justice: Appeal cases

The appeal cases in this document illustrate a common pattern of human rights violations committed within the public security and criminal justice system in Mexico, documented in the report at AMR 41/001/2007. Widespread abuses committed in the context of the public security and criminal justice system remain one of the central obstacles to major advances in the protection of human rights and access to justice. Individuals are often detained on the basis of flawed or non existent evidence and denied basic rights and this is particularly critical in cases of violence against women, indigenous and poor people.
