Canada: Amicus Curiae: Case of the Hul’qumi’num Treaty Group v. Canada: Submitted before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights

Amnesty International has long been concerned by the failure of Canadian authorities to protect Indigenous land rights in manner consistent with international rights standards, and the consequences of this failure for the health and well-being of Indigenous peoples in Canada. The amicus argues that the Hul’qumi’num Treaty Group case is illustrative of a broad failing by the Government of Canada to uphold the land rights of Indigenous peoples and that this failing requires comprehensive reform in order to fulfill Canada’s international human rights obligations.
