Timor-Leste: Amnesty International Urges Renewed Action on Past Human Rights Violations

Human Rights Council adopts Universal Periodic Review outcome on Timor-Leste. Amnesty International welcomes Timor-Leste’s acceptance of recommendations to address past human rights violations and ensure the delivery of reparations to the victims, and accepting recommendations to implement the Media Law in line with its international human rights obligations, to uphold the rights to freedom of expression and to ensure freedom of the press. However, the government must address the lack of justice, truth and reparation for women and girls who suffered sexual and gender-based violence.
