In this speech, the Secretary General explains why companies should care about human rights; about the responsibilities companies have; how companies can respect and promote human rights: Voluntary Codes and the UK Norms; and asks about Chinese multinationals. Globalization brings responsibilities and companies have obligations under international law to respect human rights. She cites pragmatic reasons for this as well as referring to concerns such as concerns such as mine safety, pollution incidents and discrimination in recruitment.
