Salaheddine Zikikout, arrested on 8 August 1993, will be tried on 11 October at the Tunis Court of First Instance, after being held for 53 days in unlawful incommunicado detention. He was brought before the prosecutor on 19 September, but was denied access to his lawyer until 29 September. He was reportedly tortured whilst held incommunicado and also reportedly signed a police statement under duress without knowing its contents.

Salaheddine ZIKIKOUT
Salaheddine Zikikout, arrested on 8 August 1993, will be tried on 11 October
1993. He was held for 53 days in incommunicado detention; this is 43 days
more than the maximum period allowed under Tunisian law.
Salaheddine Zikikout was brought before the Procureur de la République
(Prosecutor of the Republic) on 19 September, but he was denied access to his
lawyer until 29 September. It is expected that his family will be able to
visit him shortly. His trial is due to take place on 11 October at the Tunis
Court of First Instance. He is charged with belonging to an unauthorized
organization.
Salaheddine Zikikout is said to have been tortured whilst he was held in
incommunicado detention. During this time, he reportedly signed a
procès-verbal (police statement) under duress and without knowing its contents.
