sentenced in absentia: Ahmad ‘Abd al-Karim al-Sa’di, alias Abu Muhjin,
Amnesty International deeply regrets that Mounir Salah ‘Abboud, aged 25, Khalid
Muhammad Hamed, aged 27, and Ahmad Mundhir al-Kasm, aged 25, were executed
by hanging at dawn today, 24 March, at Roumieh prison in Lebanon.
Ahmad ‘Abd al-Karim al-Sa’di remains at large.
Thank you to all those who sent appeals on behalf of the executed prisoners.
FURTHER RECOMMENDED ACTION: letters may be sent in English, French, Arabic
or in your own language:
- expressing regret at the execution of Mounir Salah ‘Abboud, Khalid Muhammad
Hamed and Ahmad Mundhir al-Kasm;
- continuing to call for an immediate end to executions in Lebanon and appealing
to the Lebanese president to work towards the total abolition of the death
penalty by the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
in 1998, which Lebanon participated in drafting.
