Turkmenistan: Human rights violations continue as recommendations made during previous review go unheeded: Amnesty International Submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review
In this submission Amnesty International evaluates the implementation of a number of recommendations that Turkmenistan supported during its previous Universal Periodic Review in 2008. The organization also considers the current human rights situation in Turkmenistan and expresses concern about increased restrictions on freedoms of assembly, expression and association. Amnesty International also raises grave concern about the use of torture and other ill-treatment, and about enforced disappearances. Allegations of such treatment and practices are rarely effectively investigated, contributing to a climate of impunity.
