Turkey: Further information on fear of torture/ill-treatment / fear of "disappearance" / arbitrary killings
Amnesty International is concerned at reports that no investigation has yet been opened into the killing of Necmettin Kahraman on 19 February. He died after police opened fire on a non-violent demonstration against the capture of PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan. During the wave of mass detentions which followed the abduction of Abdullah Öcalan, eight lawyers, Feridun Çelik, M Selim Kurbanoglu, Abdullah Akin, Yusuf Tosun, Sinan Tanrikulu, Mansur Reitoglu, Mahmut Vefa and Ferda Pokerce were detained and ill-treated by police officers. They were also denied the right to read the interrogation minutes they were asked to sign.
