Turkey: medical letter writing action: Recep Marasli
Recep Marasli, a 38-year-old prisoner of conscience, was detained on 8 July together with ten others under Anti-Terror legislation. He is a Kurdish writer and publisher. There is concern at reports that he and the other ten have been subjected to torture and ill-treatment in police custody. He is reported to be suffering from neurological problems. His wife, Nuran Camli, who was also detained and who suffers from kidney stones, was beaten around the region of the kidneys. On 10 July another of the female detainees, Nurcan Balci, was transferred to hospital with fractures to her left knee cap and lower spine. Recep Marasli and others are reported to have begun a hunger-strike in protest at their ill-treatment.
