Republic of Korea (South Korea): proposed standards for a National Human Rights Commission

When Prseident Kim Dae-jung took office in February 1998 his government announced, amongst other tasks, an intention to establish a national human rights commission. In this document Amnsety International proposes a set of standards for the establishment of national human rights institutions that it recommends are used in any discussions by the South Korean government. Principles already adopted by commissions in the Asia-Pacific region and by the UN are also included.
