People's Republic of China: Prison terms increased for nuns in Tibet

Fourteen nuns serving various terms of imprisonment in Drapchi Prison have had their sentences increased by up to 9 years for recording in prison pro-independence songs. The nuns are: Tenzin Thubten, Lhundrup Zangmo, Gyaltsen Drolkar, Gyaltsen Choezom, Phuntsog Nyidron, Rigzin Choekyi, Ngawang Sangdron, Ngawang Tsamdron, Ngawang Lochoe, Ngawang Choekyi, Jigme Yangchen, Palden Choedron, Namdrol Lhamo and Ngawang Choezom. They come from different Buddhist nunneries in Tibet and were reportedly arrested between 1989 and 1992 for taking part in independence demonstrations.
