ST CHRISTOPHER AND NEVIS:Bernard RICHARDS
Ronald BROWNE
A stay of execution was granted to Bernard Richards and Ronald Browne on 6 February. They
were scheduled to be executed on 7 February 1992.
Lawyers acting on their behalf filed a constitutional motion in the High Court of St
Christopher and Nevis, arguing that their rights under Article 7 of the Constitution
(protection from torture or inhuman or degrading punishment) would be violated if they
were executed. The motion was dismissed by the court and an appeal was filed by the lawyers
after the judges' written decision was issued. The stay was granted pending a decision
on this appeal.
