Mexico: Overcoming fear: human rights violations against women in Mexico

AI documents an increasing pattern of human rights violations against women in Mexico, including torture, rape, political killings and "disappearances". Some are targeted because of political activism, others, such as young or indigenous women, are targeted because they are perceived as being vulnerable. Rape is frequently used by government agents as a form of torture. AI has received an increasing number of reports relating to such violations which may indicate an overcoming of fear and the will to work towards justice and the punishment of perpetrators. AI believes that only a firm political commitment from the Mexican government to eliminate impunity will make it possible to eradicate human rights violations aganist women in Mexico.
