Dominican Republic: Submission to the UN Human Rights Committee

, N° d'index: AMR 27/2978/2015

This briefing shows that instead of taking steps to implement the UN Human Rights Committee´s recommendations on the right to a nationality, the Dominican Republic has taken measures which have resulted in arbitrary and retroactive deprivation of nationality for tens of thousands of people. In particular, a 2013 judgment of the Constitutional Court (judgement 68-13) made statelessness a matter of law for several generation of Dominicans of foreign descent, contrary to international law.
