Amnesty International is concerned for the safety of relatives of Jorge Iván
Alarcón Sánchez and Edgar Monsalve Pulgarín, after receiving reports that Luis
Gonzalo Sánchez Restrepo, Iván Alarcón's uncle, has received death threats.
After the two men "disappeared" on 6 May 1995, their families, officially
denounced their "disappearance" to the Colombian authorities. The
denunciations have been headed by Luis Gonzalo Sánchez Restrepo. He has now
received several anonymous telephone death threats warning him that if he
continues his efforts to discover the whereabouts of Jorge Iván Alarcón Sánchez
and Edgar Monsalve Pulgarín and to identify those responsible for their
"disappearance", he will be killed.
FURTHER RECOMMENDED ACTION: Please send telegrams/telexes/faxes/express and
airmail letters
- expressing concern for the safety of Jorge Ivan Alarcón Sánchez and Edgar
Monsalve and urging an immediate investigation to establish their whereabouts;
- calling for immediate measures to guarantee the safety of Luis Gonzalo Sánchez
Restrepo and other members of the families of the two "disappeared" men;
- urging that there be un immediate and thorough investigation into the death
threats and those responsible be brought to justice.
