No date has yet been set for the treason trial of the above-named eight prisoners
who have now been allowed to have legal representation and family visits.
The trial will probably be starting in a few months' time and last for several
Koigi wa Wamwere filed an affidavit on 17 December 1990 alleging that he had
been kidnapped in Uganda by Kenyan security officers, drugged and forcibly
brought back to Kenya. He also alleged that he had been tortured.
The High Court dismissed his case and awarded costs against him. It did not
inquire into the torture allegations.
No further action is required from UA participants at this stage. Amnesty
International will continue to monitor the situation and will send a trial
observer if possible. Thank you to all those who sent appeals.
