Democratic Republic of the Congo: Oral statement delivered during the thirty-fifth session of the UN Human Rights Council, 6-23 June 2017

The human rights situation in the Kasai region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) requires immediate action from this Council. Hundreds of extrajudicial executions and other serious violations of international human rights law have been committed by the Armed Forces of the DRC. Violence now affects at least five provinces, and an estimated 500 to 1,000 people have been killed and 1.3 million1 have been forced to flee their homes.
