Kazakhstan: Fundamental freedoms under pressure: Amnesty International submission for the UN Universal Periodic Review, 34th Session of the UPR Working Group, November 2019

This submission was prepared for the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Kazakhstan in November 2019. In it, Amnesty International evaluates the implementation of recommendations made to Kazakhstan in its previous UPR, including in relation to freedom of expression, torture and other Ill-treatment, and discrimination. It also assesses the national human rights framework with regard to detention facilities, discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity, and national human rights institutions. Amnesty International also expresses concern about the treatment of human rights defenders, discrimination, torture and other ill-treatment, and the rights to freedom of expression, assembly and association.
