On 10 May 9 people, including Turabi Polat and Muhtullah Abbasiogullari were taken to Izmir State Security Court and charged with membership of Ekim, an illegal organization, under Article 141 of hte Turkish Penal Code. On 20 July 1989 the first hearing took place: 8 defendants were present, 6 claimed that they had been tortured during interrogation. Izmir State Security Court announced their verdicts and sentences of imprisonment on 28 December 1989. The appeal for Turabi Polat anad Muhtullah Abbasiogullari was heard on 11 April 1990.
