Czech Republic: Reported ill-treatment of Stanislav Penc by police officers in Prague

There is concern at the reported ill-treatment of Stanislav Penc, a member of the Czech Human Rights Committee, by police officers in Prague. According to information received, on 27 January 1999 15 police officers wearing black uniforms and balaclavas detained Stanislav Penc and beat him, after he was questioned about his identity card in a restaurant. He was later released without charge. Amnesty International is calling for a prompt and impartial investigation into the incident.
