Croatia: Continued violence used by uniformed personnel in connection with evictions

Amnesty International has recently received further reports of violence or intimidation used by members of the Croatian armed forces against civilians in connection with forced evictions from their apartments, or other housing issues. Military or civilian police have failed to provide appropriate protection and little or no effort has been made to discipline the perpetrators. Among the cases received are three cases from the Dalmatian city of Split: O.B, who was allegedly severely beaten by soldiers on the eve of an administrative eviction; alleged ill-treatment of Karma and Josko Didara during a forced eviction; alleged ill-treatment of Tanja Puhalo by the head of the Ministry of Defence Housing Sub-Commission in Split, a military officer.
