Hungary: Freedom of expression under fire: Briefing to the Hungarian government on the new media legislation

Amnesty International continues to be concerned about two new media laws which were adopted in Hungary in September and December 2010 respectively, and amended by the Parliament in March 2011. Amnesty International considers that the new media legislation in Hungary contains serious flaws that may infringe the freedom of expression. It is particularly worrying that such a restrictive legislation has been adopted by a country that is holding the Presidency of the European Union and should serve as an example when it comes to compliance with human rights standards.
