Cyprus: Imprisonment of conscientious objector Marios Kyriakou Thrasyvoulou

On 3 July 1995 Marios Kyriakou Thrasyvoulou was sentenced by Limasol Military Court to none months’ imprisonment for refusing to perform military service. As a Jehovah’s Witness, he is opposed to any kind of military service. There are 16 conscientious objectors currently in prison in Cyprus for refusing to perform compulsory military service. As are as AI is aware, all are Jehovah’s Witnesses. AI considers them to be prisoners of conscience and is calling for their immediate and unconditional release.
