Amnesty International’s concerns on the implementation of the “completion strategy” of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia

Amnesty International believes that the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia has played a major role in addressing impunity for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide committed during the violent break-up of Yugoslavia. However, Amnesty International believes that the “completion strategy” should be reviewed as it ignores crucial facts. This report explains why and gives why the Security Council and UN member states should ensure that the Tribunal’s activities should be extended beyond the originally envisaged deadline of 2010.
