New Zealand: Briefing to the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, 48th Session, May 2012

In this briefing to the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Amnesty International expresses its concern that New Zealand is not giving full effect to the economic, social and cultural (ESC) rights enshrined in the Covenant. In particular, this briefing focuses on the lack of enforceability of ESC rights within New Zealand’s domestic legal system as well as the effectiveness of New Zealand’s legislation in protecting the rights of indigenous peoples to non-discrimination and culture.
