Nicaragua: In Focus: Intimidation of Women Human Rights Defenders

Nine women human rights defenders are facing legal proceedings as a result of their work promoting sexual health issues and women’s rights in Nicaragua. Intimidation against them and other defenders has decreased since international appeals began in 2008, however the legal complaint remains unresolved. In this focus sheet Amnesty International urges the Nicaraguan authorities to recognize the legitimacy of the activities of human rights defenders and uphold their right to carry out their activities without obstacles or fear of reprisals.
