Sudan: Time for change: a need to end continuing human rights violations: Amnesty International Submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review, May 2011

In this submission, Amnesty International raises concerns about increased powers for the state to restrict freedoms and to commit human rights violations under the National Intelligence Security Act. Civilians have been subjected to attacks as a result of bombing by government forces, attacks on villages and armed violence in IDP camps. Members of the Public Order Police continue to harass and abuse vulnerable women and girls. Death sentences continue to be imposed and there is a growing lack of cooperation with UN human rights mechanisms.
