Sierra Leone: Special Court for Sierra Leone: Issues for consideration regarding the location of the trial of Charles Taylor

The United Nations Security Council is considering whether to adopt a resolution to transfer Charles Taylor’s case outside Sierra Leone. This document explains the concerns which Amnesty International has about this draft resolution. A decision to move the trial will raise significant challenges that must be addressed to minimize delay. The Special Court will require immediate additional resources essential to conduct the trial outside Sierra Leone. Amnesty International hopes that the Security Council will give its full attention to the serious issues of security and consider options for increasing security to allow the trial to continue in Sierra Leone.
