Burundi: Memorandum to the African Commission on Human and Peoples' rights

, Índice: AFR 16/007/1999

On the occasion of the 25 ordinary session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights to be held from 26 April to 5 May 1999 in Burundi, Amnesty International wishes to bring to the Commission's attention some of its current human rights concerns in Burundi, especially the hundreds of extrajudicial executions committed by the armed forces and armed opposition groups, prison conditions and widespread use of torture and ill-treatment of detainees. Amnesty International is specially concerned about juvenile and children detainees kept in the same prisons as adults. Other problems mentioned are unfair trials, death penalty and internally displaced people. The document finishes with AI recommendations to the African Commission.
