Yemen: Despite significant reform, human rights violations persist: Amnesty International Submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review, January – February 2014

, Índice: MDE 31/014/2013

In this submission, Amnesty International assesses the implementation of recommendations that Yemen accepted in its previous review, including strengthening co-operation with UN mechanisms, taking steps to establish an independent national human rights commission, women’s rights, and birth registration. The organization also raises concerns about specific human rights violations, including excessive use of force by the security forces during protests, human rights abuses in the context of armed conflict, arbitrary detention, torture and ill-treatment, enforced disappearances and extrajudicial executions, discrimination against women and girls, and the death penalty.
