, Índice: MDE 30/020/2001

On 19 June 2001, Mohamed Mouadda, former leader of the Mouvement des démocrates socialistes (MDS), Movement of Democratic Socialists, the main opposition party in Tunisia, was sent back to the Tunisian civil prison "9 Avril" to serve the rest of the sentence he received in 1996. Amnesty International considers him to be a prisoner of conscience detained solely because of the non-violent expression of his political beliefs and calls for his immediate and unconditional release.
