Addressing violations of international humanitarian and human rights law in Israel and Lebanon

, Índice: IOR 61/020/2006

In this letter to Erkki Tuomioja, President of the Council of Ministers of the European Union, Amnesty International holds that for any solution to the conflict in the Middle East to be sustainable, it must address the issue of accountability for crimes under international law, by whoever commits them. The organization calls on the Council to shape EU policy with regard to ending this crisis in such a way that it is firmly and concretely grounded in the framework of international human rights and humanitarian law, and to reflect this approach consistently in all its actions.
