Open letter to all members of the UN Security Council

, Índice: IOR 40/008/2011

The UN Security Council is expected to adopt, later this month, a resolution on the Al-Qaida and Taliban sanctions regime. Amnesty International welcomes recent initiatives by the Council to make the “listing” and “de-listing” procedures fairer, while urging it to more fundamentally reform the sanctions regime, which despite the recent improvements continues to fall short of internationally recognized standards of due process. As a priority, the organization urges the Security Council to extend the mandate of the Ombudsperson and offers its support as well as recommendations in this letter.
