Sri Lanka: When will justice be done?
Although the Government of Sri Lanka has several times during the past few years undertaken to prosecute those responsible for extrajudicial executions, "disappearances" and other violations, there are, to date, few signs that this undertaking is being implemented. This report highlights incidents of political killing and "disappearance" committed in Sri Lanka since 1983. Each of the cases illustrates different aspects of AI's concern about the lack of proper investigation and prosecution. In many cases, some form of investigation or prosecution has taken place but with very unsatisfactory outcomes. The vast majority of cases of extrajudicial executions and "disappearances" in Sri Lanka have never been investigated.
