Nigeria: Submission to the National Human Rights Commission’s public hearing on evictions and demolitions in Nigeria; Lagos 2013

, Índice: AFR 44/034/2013

More than 2 million people have been forcibly evicted from their homes in different parts of Nigeria since 2000. Most were already marginalised and had lived for years without access to clean water, sanitation, adequate health care or education. In this submission Amnesty International provides information on the demolitions and forced evictions in two informal settlements in Lagos state and on international standards in relation to: Nigeria’s obligations under international human rights law; the right to adequate housing; legal and procedural safeguards against forced eviction; and the right to effective remedy.
