Israel and the Occupied Territories: Muhammad Khaled al-Baydu: Administrative detention

The above-named, aged 50 years from Ramallah on the West Bank, was arrested on 16 September 1990 and issued with a five-month detention order. He is currently held in the Ketziot detention centre. This is apparently his first arrest. Muhammad al-Baydu has appealed against his order: at the appeal hearing it was apparently alleged that he was active in furthering the aims of the Intifada. His appeal was rejected. Muhammad al-Baydu is said to suffer from heart disease. Amnesty International does not yet know if Muhammad al-Baydu is a prisoner of conscience; the organization is also concerned that he may not have been given an adequate opportunity to challenge his detention order.
