Medical letter-writing action: Chad: Detention of Dr Ramadane Amoli

The above-named is a 34-year-old doctor who was arrested between 28 June and 1 July 1987. He has been detained since then in secret without charge or trial. His arrest appears to be partly due to his ethnic origin: Dr Amoli is a member of the Hadjerai group, over 180 of whom are believed to be in political detention in Chad. Another reason for his arrest may have been his friendship with Haroun Gody, a leader of the Mouvement du salut national du Tchad (MOSANAT), Movement for the National Salvation of Chad, an armed opposition group which draws its support mainly from the Hadjerai community.

Iran: Violations of human rights 1987 - 1990

This research paper documents violations of human rights which have taken place in Iran since 1987. It reports widespread arbitrary arrest and detention of political opponents of the regime, unfair summary trials, torture and mass execution of political prisoners and of ordinary criminals. At least 2,000 political prisoners were summarily executed in the second half of 1988, many condemned after interrogation by so-called "Death Commissions".
