Amnesty International, ARTICLE 19, Gulf Center for Human Rights, Human Rights Watch, Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion and the Salam for Democracy and Human Rights are holding a one-day seminar on nationality revocation on Monday 31 October.

The international human rights challenge of arbitrary revocation of citizenship: Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates; Canada, the Dominican Republic,Myanmar, Syria and beyond

The seminar will examine a range of case studies from Bahrain but also Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, from the Gulf Cooperation Council, along with others from Canada, the Dominican Republic, Myanmar, Syria and Canada.
The country studies are intended to lead to a better understanding of the longstanding nature and scope of the problem of states stripping nationals of their citizenship. Participants will explore the practice, impact and human rights dimension of arbitrary nationality revocation and forceful exile and learn what has been done by the international community to date. They will also explore what more can be done to halt this growing practice.
The seminar brings together activists and representatives of the communities involved; lawyers, researchers, representatives of NGOs and international human rights bodies, human rights defenders, and other victims of unlawful nationality revocation.
The event is open the public and will, at times be filmed and (voice) recorded, though includes people who do not want to be recorded in any way.
