Dr Beko Ransome-Kuti, a medical doctor, former Nigerian Medical Association leader, amd human rights activist, was arrested on 27 July 1995. It is reported that he may have been sentenced to life imprisonment following a secret trial by military tribunal. The Nigerian Government has not given the reasons for his arrest and apparent trial.
