Ethiopia: Submission to the UN Universal Periodic Review: Sixth session of the UPR Working Group of the Human Rights Council, November-December 2009

In this submission, Amnesty International provides information as stipulated in the General Guidelines for the Preparation of Information under the Universal Periodic Review. Amnesty International raises concern over the Charities and Societies Proclamation in relation to the activities of national and international human rights organizations. The organization also highlights concerns about human rights violations in the context of armed conflict, including mass arrest, torture, rape and extrajudicial executions by government forces; political prisoners, and arbitrary arrest and illegal detention in the Oromo region.
