Julie Verhaar has been appointed Senior Director for Fundraising and Growth at Amnesty International, the human rights organization’s International Secretariat announced today.
“This is a crucial role for the long term growth of Amnesty International’s movement,” said Salil Shetty, Secretary General of Amnesty International.
“We need to continue to increase our support base so that together we are even stronger in our fight for human rights. Julie brings a wealth of energy and commitment to this role, combining her sharp business sense with a proven commitment to, and track record of success in, the not-for-profit world. We are delighted she is joining us.”
With more than a decade’s experience leading fundraising efforts for major organizations including The Netherlands Red Cross and Greenpeace International, Julie Verhaar is currently Chief of Fundraising Services and Deputy Director for Private Sector Fundraising at the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Her previous roles include Founder and Managing Director of Sunrise Integrate Marketing Services Ltd, a project management and consultancy firm in the Netherlands.
In her new role at Amnesty International, Julie will be responsible for leading the international organization’s fundraising efforts to achieve ambitious goals for increasing human rights impact through growth in income and membership.
“As a longstanding member of Amnesty International, I am honoured to now be able to contribute to the organization’s mission in this new role. The opportunity for growth, in both financial and membership terms, is truly exciting,” said Julie Verhaar.
Julie Verhaar will formally join Amnesty International on 1 October 2014.
