Around the world, governments are taking emergency measures to tackle COVID-19. Some are designed to keep populations safe and healthy — but others risk becoming “power grabs” in the hands of repressive governments:
- Jailing journalists
- Silencing whistleblowers
- Hounding peaceful critics
None of those are acceptable.
Enacting emergency decrees that are so vague they can justify any human rights violation, and be used forever, is a real risk.
Amnesty International will be watching and calling out those governments whenever we see injustice.
Don’t let COVID-19 infect, and affect, our human rights.
