New “Refugees Welcome Index” to rank countries by public acceptance of refugees

On 19 May 2016, Amnesty International will publish the first ever Refugees Welcome Index, based on a global survey of more than 27,000 people carried out by the internationally renowned strategy consultancy GlobeScan. It ranks 27 countries based on people’s willingness to accept refugees into their countries, towns, neighbourhoods and homes.

The Index is being launched ahead of the first ever World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul on 23-24 May, convened by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to address the “greatest humanitarian crisis of our lifetime”.

The 27 countries in the index are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, France, Germany, Ghana, Greece, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Poland, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, the UK and the USA.
